Eclectic

Eclectic refers to a style or approach that draws on a variety of sources, ideas, or influences. It is often used to describe something that incorporates elements from different styles, cultures, or periods, creating a diverse and unique combination. For example, an eclectic interior design might mix vintage furniture with modern art, or blend different colors and patterns to create an interesting and varied aesthetic.

Today's case study is Ace Hotel in Sydney, housed in the historic Tyne House, a former brick factory, with design by Melbourne-based Flack Studios. The space features terra cotta tile floors and a warm color palette of orange, green, rich maroon, and mustard, creating a natural atmosphere. Molded concrete walls evoke the texture of timber, while red and gray marble accents can be found in the stairwell, bar, and select kitchen countertops. Every detail has been custom-made for the hotel, with soundproofed straw-paneled walls. The space achieves a harmonious balance between modern technology, vintage pieces, and furniture, and the bold use of diverse materials enhances the sensory experience.
