NychairX


The NychairX was born in 1970. It has been sold in various countries for over 40 years since it was first created by Japanese designer Takeshi Nii.

Takeshi Nii Japanese Designer

Takeshi Nii (1920–2007) was a Japanese designer who became known for his iconic, foldable Nychair X lounge chairs. A third-generation owner of a company that produced Kendo equipment in Tokushima Prefecture, Nii designed his first Nychair X lounge chair in 1970.

The Nychair X has received several prestigious design awards over the years and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

  • 1970 - The NychairX goes on sale. Receives the Japan Interior Architects / Designers' Association Award.

  • 1982 - Receives the National Special Award for Invention (Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President's Award).

  • 1986 - Receives the Good Design Award (sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion) .

  • 1997 - Receives the Long Life Design Award (sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion).
